Sara Bierwerth, OD
Dr. Sara Bierwerth re-joined our practice in June of 2017. She was a former extern in our practice in 2010. Dr. Bierwerth completed a dual degree in Biology and Spanish at the College of St. Benedict in Minnesota before entering the Pennsylvania College of Optometry, where she received her doctor of optometry degree with honors in 2012. In addition to doing an externship at our office, Dr. Bierwerth also completed externships with the Cornea and Contact Lens Institute of Minnesota, the James Lewis, M.D. Eye Group and Einstein Hospital’s Ophthalmology Department. Following graduation from optometry school, Dr. Bierwerth completed a Cornea and Contact Lens Residency at the Southern College of Optometry.
Dr. Bierwerth is highly trained in fitting specialty contact lenses for keratoconus, myopia control, severe dry eye and other corneal diseases. She formally headed the contact lens department of a large group practice in her home state of Minnesota before recently relocating to Pennsylvania. In addition to working at our office, Dr. Bierwerth teaches at the Pennsylvania College of Optometry.
Dr. Bierwerth is a fellow of the American Academy of Optometry and a member of the American Optometric Association and the Scleral Lens Education Society. . She loves helping patients see more clearly through the use of specialty contact lenses, and has a passion for improving vision and comfort for all of our patients who wear contact lenses. In her free time, Dr. Bierwerth enjoys family walks with her husband and children, as well as traveling back to visit family in the Midwest. She is as excited to be back in our office helping patients with their eye care needs as we are to have her back.
